Clearly this won't suck like AVP 1 + 2. But it still is a 10 on my WTF meter. Red Sonja, Sin City 2, Machete, Predators.
Ok, maybe that is pretty awesome project planning.

It's in the works (all the films I listed are projects RR is working on currently). I believe he is still waiting on Frank Miller's script(s) last I heard, and it wouldn't shoot until after Red Sonja, and probably after Predators now. He also still says he will do Machete soon, but I think the entire idea behind Machete is to shoot it quick and cheap from what he said at Comic Con this year. No matter what, Red Sonja is his next movie in theatres, and my guess is given the money behind the franchise, Predators will then follow in 2010 or 11.
We won't have to worry about a PG-13 rating, so it's already got that going for it

And he's redoing Red Sonja? Is it a remake, or new story?

New story, based on the original comics and no relation to the other movie. That was the panel I saw him and Rose on at Comic Con last year (3rd row in the press pit, I snuck in). It's basically a hard core R rated Rose McGowan kicking ass with a big sword and small metal bikini type movie. Heavy on digital reworking (like sin city and 300 heavy).

Teaser Poster for Red Sonja
In Predators, I think Danny Trejo should have to one on one a Predator to the death.

eta: Sounds like Machete will be first, with a start date for filming in June, in Austin. Variety Article on Predators and Machete.

Yeah, I hear that. I finally got around to watching the Spirit this weekend and it was, uh, well, um, kinda crappy. I couldn't ever decide if it was trying to be funny or serious, and most of what was funny came across as unintentional humor. It was weird. It's almost like it was a spoof of superhero comic book movies, but I don't think it was intended to be such exactly. I think maybe Frank Miller needs to stick to comics.
I'm definitely psyched for Predators and Machete, and I think a Rodriguez-directed Red Sonja would be pretty awesome too. I mean, what's not to love about watching Rose McGowan run around in next to nothing chopping up folks with a sword?

Sounds like he won't direct, but co-direct (I wouldn't be suprised if his normal DP directs, as he was attached to direct Red Sonja as well for that same reason given in the interview).

This is a direct sequel to the original Predator (think Alien/Aliens), not a remake.
The script is fucking amazing, having read it now I'm way more excited for this movie. It's dark as hell, violent, bloody, and takes place mostly on the Predator homeworld which is basically jungle with crazy animals and big Predators hunting humans who have been captured and released for sport. The script felt a lot like the original Predator, with a group of badasses being hunted (this time for sport on the Predator homeworld), they come across a guy (probably Topher Grace) who has been living there in caves for years figuring out how to avoid the Predators (in script the guy in hiding is a small, geeky sort). They collectively fight for their lives to get off the planet, and of course barely anyone lives through the ordeal. There is a role for Dutch in the script, so hopefully Arnold gets his cameo in.
Adrian Brody was just cast in one of the leads (and apparently Brody lobbied for the part). The other piece of casting is Danny Trejo is playing a badass mexican revolutionary dude (a total departure for Trejo, I know ). Alice Braga was cast, and a few others (most notably Topher Grace).
eta: I just noticed earlier in this thread I totally called Danny doing a one on one with a Predator in the new movie. I was right!

Were all of Hollywood's action stars booked or something?

They fit the parts they were cast for. I'll dig up the cast descriptions, but think Breakfast Club, a jock, a brain, etc. There are a few other guys cast who are large and in charge (Derek Meyers for example...he was the new Jason, dude's huge). Each character had a good reason though for being kidnapped by Predators and brought to the homeworld for hunting.

Yeah, have you seen the documentary about him? It's on Netflix on Demand so you can watch it online. The dude is just an awesome guy ontop of being one bad motherfucker. He was a bad kid, gangs, robberies, drugs, went to prison, once he got out he quickly got some roles as "prisoner" thanks to some friends, and the rest is history. He does tons of youth mentor stuff, trying to get kids off the streets of L.A. (east LA). His documentary is worth watching for many reasons as it also did a good job of showing how bad shit was on the streets of LA in the 80's.
You can tell he is just an honest dude who grew up in a bad place, and prison did help him in the end.

Except the "Steve McQueen - Adrian Brody" comparison.
More like Rock Hudson.
This actually looks like a good movie. I'll probably see this in the theatre! (0)
