Ideally, I agree with them, and while it's common knowledge that Floyd should be listened to front to back, they're not seeing the forest through the trees.
What happens when someone just needs one song, for a mix or for whatever reason. They're not going to pay $10 for the whole album. They're going to figure out how to download the song for free. And it's really not hard to figure out.
So PF is losing out on countless $1 sales. People will pay the dollar just b/c it's easier than finding a free copy, and usually sounds better. But people won't pay $10 just to get one song.
Sounds like ego is trumping common fiscal sense.

I almost posted this. I had typed it all out and everything. Then I retracted it, because I started to figure that they DO know what they're doing, and that they are intentionally trying to prove something here. Why? Because they are so filthy goddamn rich that they can afford to take a stand. They don't need the $1 sales.

I totally agree. DSOTM, The Wall and a few others really are albums and Pink Floyd must feel that they lose their integrity as musical compositions when split up and sold as individual songs. I'm glad to see it. Anyone who buys just one song from DSOTM deserves a good punch (just kidding) (wait....not really).
Besides, Apple doesn't get to decide how music is distributed. They've really abused the position they've gained with the iPod and iPhone.

I have Pink Floyd's entire catalogue, and I agree that their albums are made to be listened to the whole way through. And I respect their musical integrity, and I'm glad they set the precedent. Just seems like an uphill battle.

Doing a one off gig seems to be the only way we will see these two together again. I would imagine touring with Waters is a much different animal than doing one gig. Plus, IF Gilmour was to do a true Floyd tour, my guess is the Wall is the last thing he would want to do. So instead, we get GE Smith.

I'm sure you're right. It just pains me to see those two laughing and smiling and appearing to have a great time together and NOT play any shows together. Based on appearances their relationship is better than it's been in like three decades, and that was always thought to be the key to having a reunited (and touring) PF someday. Still not to be.

Nor ever truly can be now with the loss of Richard Wright. I agree though, it's almost like they appear friendly again, which is just odd as can be. Maybe someday we would get a big stadium thing again like a few years back, but more than just 3 songs. But if Gilmour is too reunite with Waters, the Wall Tour would not be the place for it.
Which is a shame of course, since seeing David rip Comfortably Numb on top of The Wall would be epic as can be.

Truth be told... who wouldn't.
Nobody would rather see them play together more than me, but save 4 or 5 songs, The Wall doesn't really doesn't showcase Gilmour's ability. On An Island was one of the best albums to come out in 2006 and the tour was AMAZING.
The Wall will be an awesome spectacle, no doubt, and I can't wait for the DC show on my birthday. Still, I'd pay 5 times as much (that's right... I said it) to see the two of them team up and conquer some of the other material, especially pre-dark side stuff.

Yeah, I have a lot of respect for bands that refuse to be nnostalgia acts. Though you have to also give it to bands like R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band who just bring it year after year, though they both have new material.

No kidding, that's the weekend following my b-day. The D.C. show will be a birthday palooza.
I did have a feeling that with the whole fallen soldiers thing, and because Roger is very political, that Gilmour would add his services during the D.C. show.
