I see there's a thread about "best Floyd album" but that is truly a topic in and of itself. I have been a fan of Pink Floyd for some time, but shied away from their better known albums like The Wall and DSOTM in favor of Meddle and Animals. I also am a HUGE fan of their work on the Zabriskie Point soundtrack which not a lot of people know. In my wanderings about the net I found this great BBC documentary made quite recently about the band (I didn't link in the thread because it comes in multiple parts). Enjoy!

The Zabriske Point soundtrack is great. From what I remember some of the instrumentals on there became full fledge floyd tunes later. It's been years since I listened to that, I need to dig it up.

I have never heard of that soundtrack. Sounds very interesting. I think I'll download that now.

We used to play "Country Song" several years ago in our live sets. Gotta love that dreamy, bucolic pre-DSOTM Floyd sound.

Does anyone else have Rebuild the Wall? It's a bluegrass tribute by Luther wright and the Wrongs. Simply amazing. Y'all should definitely check it out.

In the vein of different genre Pink Floyd covers, "Dub Side of the Moon" is fucking fantastic.

Item: "If" is one of the top 5 PF songs.

MAS, I love everything about Atom Heart Mother, "If" especially. I'll never agree with the band on that album.

I was driving home late over the weekend, and was shuffling my entire iPod. "If" popped up and it was just one of those perfect-song-for-the-moment times, when you renew your appreciation for a piece of music and don't want it to end.

Pink Floyd Pig Goes Missing: Reward Offered

There goes Peter Frampton's big finale. He's gonna be pissed off.

Quote

Wanted: Roger Waters’ pig (reward offered!)
Posted: 08:05 AM ET
How do you lose an inflatable pig that’s as big as a two-story house?

Have you seen this pig? There’s a $10,000 reward for its return.

The big escape happened Sunday in Indio, Calfiornia, on the last night of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Former Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters was performing his song, “Pigs,” to 50,000 people when a giant balloon in the shape of a 50-foot pig rose from behind the stage and floated above the audience. (Fans will be familiar with such displays going back to Pink Floyd’s “Animals” tour in the ’70s.)

Organizers cut the anchor cables free Sunday night and made plans to retrieve the pig when it landed — but as of late Monday, the inflatable animal has not been located. Now, his owners are offering a $10,000 reward for his safe return, plus lifelong tickets to Coachella for four people.

If a 50-foot pig floats by your window, please contact lostpig@coachella.com. The pig can be identified by graffiti on its sides, and the name “Obama” spray-painted on its underbelly.

– Denise Quan, CNN Entertainment Producer

The soundtrack of the 1969 film "More" is the best of the few soundtracks they chipped in on. The film is about heroin addiction. I have some Zabriskie Point session outtakes somewhere.

Gottttta disagree with ya there, More was a ncie start but features a few too many nonsense tracks for me, Obscurred by Clouds, on the otherhand, is really amazing. One of, if not my favorite Floyd album.

ear and a place where there is no self, only calm."

Am I the only one who watched the documentary Kyd linked in his original post? I've seen it like 3 times now, it's fucking fantastic. Think of their "Behind the Music," only without the sensational hooks and stupid narration that goes along with VH1.

Hold on, give a brother a chance!

I'm definitely excited to watch it, just haven't had the chance. Hopefully this coming Saturday morning, before the lady wakes up (I can barely ever sleep in, she sleeps like a bucket of snow).

It is really well done. I'll prolly watch again and very soon. Most of the narration is from recent interviews from the band, and a lot of rare footage...it would be a great saturday morning watch...bucket of snow, haha, I am going to remember that one.

Fat Old Sun was the raging highlight of many Floyd shows in the early 70's... on par with Axe in their live repetoire. I've got a buttload of old Floyd DVD's from that era that I scooped up last year. At some point, I need to get to the mailboxes with them.

Atom Heart Mother was the album that sold me on Floyd. I don't think it's their best by any stretch, but it's probably my favorite.

how do you feel... how do you feel NOW?....
