Ableton is still blowing my mind all of the time. It's difficult to imagine a musical situation that couldn't be improved with Ableton. You can do whatever the eff you want.

I'm going to use it to DJ my first set tomorrow! Psyched!!!

Anything you want to share with class?

"I was playin in Mobile, Alabama. Spookiest place I ever was. They had pictures of men with animals heads on em. Pictures of men with birds heads on em. I'm tellin ya it was a spooky thing...... That's where the Mardi Gras started. More witches and warlocks in Mobile than there is anywhere in America. Everybody thinks it's Salem, but its not. Mobile." - Doyle Brunson

interesting. let us know how that goes. that's actually one thing i'm still confused about - how people use ableton for live performance or djing. like, how do you set up a cue track? is there some kind of dj mixer/crossfade interface?

There are two sides to Ableton. One works like a normal DAW like pro tools or whatever and the other side cues up audio files. You can arrange everything however you want with the track configurations and the effect. You can set up a crossfader or use the regular faders. You can cue up loops, songs, basically whatever audio you want. You can load up files or just drag them in from iTunes. You set up the tracks with warp markers that let the software adjust tempo so all of your loops and songs sync up. The whole thing is pretty nuts. So many ways to use this software.

hello all. cool to see an ableton live thread. i've been producing music with it for a few years. my path went like so: impulse tracker -> fruity loops -> fl studio -> ableton live. i have a license for live 7 and operator. i am also into software like plogue bidule (similar to max/msp) and csound.

here is some BSP:

all of our music was made with ableton live, plogue bidule and edirol r-09s.

i use the sends and dummy track 1 to setup a cue track so i can cue certain things while i'm playing drums while not affecting the master track sent to the PA. I can explain how to do this, but would probably need my live set in front of me to do so. PM if you need help.

FWIW - it went pretty well. I mixed (I shouldn't say "spun") well enough to get another gig at a bar in NH in a few weeks. I definitely had a good time doing it. I might get a few more sets together for random gigs and extra cash. But for now, I want to go back to using Ableton for track making, which is why I got it in the first place. It's pretty easy to go on enormous fun tangents with this software.
