"You see, in our two-party system, the Democrats are the party of no ideas and the Republicans are the party of bad ideas. It usually goes something like this. A Republican will stand up in Congress and say, "I've got a really bad idea." And a Democrat will immediately jump to his feet and declare, "And I can make it shittier!" - Lewis Black

he makes the sculptures out of dust particles, sugar crystals, etc. and can do some of the work only between heartbeats.

There is an exhibit opening here in DC at the National Botanical Gardens on 05/26, I am looking forward to this big time.
have you seen the documentary "River of Glass?" It is amazing. Dale Chihuly (and a plethora of other glass blowers) work on various large-scale pieces in Finland, toss them in the river, then transport them to Venice, Italy to put on display.
Also, if you are ever in Oklahoma City, they have a fairly new art museum that was completely designed about a huge Chihuly tower in the entrance...gorgeous! (and there are many other Chihuly pieces throughout).

Agreed that the following are awesome:
Chuck Close
Claes Oldenburg
Christo and Jean-Cleade (RIP)
Hokusai
Dale Chihuly
etc...
1)Now, my favorite painting is hands down, "The Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli (so beautiful)
2)Next, I am a huge fan of Andy Warhol (he was one very special enigma)
3) My favorite local artist (from right here in Birmingham, AL) is Merilee Challis...which I am oh-so lucky to actually own a piece oh hers (plus she is totally cool and is co-owner of a really hip bar/venue called Bottletree)
4) Not technically my favorite, but I am in awe of contemporary white-house aide turned painter...Alexa Meade. She does these live paintings where she actually creates a 3-D scene by painting directly onto people and 3-D objects and then taking a photograph in which the images eerily look like a flat 2-D painting (except for the hair which still looks quite realistic)...
