My mother got me one for christmas. Were Irish and she loves Irish music, and it just so happens her son (me) loves music and insrument. I started seriously trying to get this thing down and boy its hard. Maybe cause i play guitar and mandolin and nothing percussion.

cool. not a thread topic i would have expected on here.
i've attempted to play bodhran before, but you're right - it's really damn hard. and extra-frustrating, because it doesn't seem like it should be particularly hard. i mean, it's just a drum and a stick, how hard could it be?
well, keep it up and let us know if you get the hang of it.

Holy shit man. Ive been practicing everyday for a week and all I can do is a a basic up down with a triplet thrown it. The Bodhran becomes a whole new instrument when you use the hand behind the drum for muting and unmuting. Im actually impressed with myself for what Ive got down, but still have a whole lotta years left on this thing.
