Might as well move into a nice fresh thread. First, let's decorate a bit:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3BaJMgGKAmE/SvLXQvSjbPI/AAAAAAAAMJs/3bSGExwBXes/s320/mariano+and+jeter+2009+world+series+trophy.jpg
You can just set that in the corner, Derek.

So let's talk some baseball:

I'm alright with the Granderson deal. Hope he has a bounceback year, but even if he doesn't, he's gonna hit 35+ HRs at Yankee Stadium. Easy.

And as long as Halladay isn't heading to Boston, I'm fine with the Yanks staying out of that auction.

The War On Drugs : Poll and discussion

This is easily the issue I feel most passionate about, so I couldn't not start a thread about it. I really take this topic seriously, and I really enjoyed the input I got from folks on the Rhombus on the matter. Thus: please mind the rules and keep this thread from getting locked. This is a thread about policy, politics, economics, etc. Please keep all stories about personal drug use to yourself. This includes "when I was in college" and "well I know this guy, not me but..." kind of references.

This topic is especially relevant right now because of the new congress. When the dems took over, I figured there'd be no real changes in the war on drugs...until I heard that Dennis mother fucking Kucinich is going to headup the Office of National Drug Control Policy oversight subcommittee.

Simply put: this rocks my fucking world and gives me hope for the future. Kucinich is one of the most high-profile critics of the drug war.

Quote

Prohibition simply doesn't work. It only creates thousands and thousands of Al Capones.

That's pretty much my view as well, and almost no one in politics has the balls to say it out loud. I think that the War on Drugs is our biggest error in domestic policy (with massive International ramifications taboot) since slavery.

But without a soapbox from me (for now), what do you guys think?

I see there's a thread about "best Floyd album" but that is truly a topic in and of itself.
The Angry Rant Thread

Yesterday morning I woke up before my wife and daughter. There wasn't much to do but watch some mindless TV so I flipped around for a while before landing on My Super Sweet 16 on MTV. My Super Sweet 16 is either the worst or best show on TV and I can't figure out which one. If its intent is to be funny and make these kids look as stupid and shallow as possible to point out how awful and ridiculous they are, then it's doing a fantastic job of that. If it's intended to be cool and to appeal to other teenagers because they want to be like these vapid idiots, then it's an abomination. The first time my wife saw this show she said, "This is why the Arabs hate us." Frankly, this show is why I hate us.

I want to give each and every one of the ungrateful bitches on this show a choice - they can either take a beating or watch a couple of movies. If they choose the beating, I'd beat them within an inch of their pointless, ignorant little lives with some barbed wire and a tire iron. If they chose to watch the movies, I'd strap them up Clockwork Orange style and make them watch documentaries on poverty for about a week. In between each one I'd show them their own episode of Sper Sweet 16 until they get the point. They're all so spoiled and horrible. Words simply can't express how strong my hatred is for these undeserving fucks.

At first I thought, "Damn, I feel sorry for their parents. Can you imagine having to live with those bitches?" but then I realized that the parents are the problem. These awful people have catered to every whim of these kids and instilled in them the snobbery and unrealistic expectations of the world that have made them who they are. This sense of entitlement and selfishness is completely out of control. Fuck these parents. If your kid is asked to be on that show, take that as a sign that you're a bad parent raising a terrible fucking child. If this is what these kids expect and demand for a 16th birthday party, can you imagine what they want for high school graduation? Or a wedding?! Can you imagine what they'll expect daddy to shell out for a fucking wedding?!!

Who I really feel bad for is any man that these bitches will date. (Yes, I know that sometimes there are guys having parties on this show. However, from what I've seen they too will be dating men.) How can anyone possibly live up to what these terrible cunts have grown to expect and are accustomed to getting? If any of you single guys ever find out that the girl you're dating was on this show, run as fast as you can.

The problem isn't that I'm jealous, because I'm not. Oh sure, I'd love to be given all that money for no reason, but what angers me about this show isn't that they're undeservingly rich. What angers me about this show is that these kids do everything for the wrong reasons. If I had that much money I would certainly want to have a huge raging party every once in a while. But not the way they do it. say they spend $300,000 on one of these parties. They do it all in the name of showing off - "Oh look at me in my limo and designer clothes. Look how much money I have." Think of the amazing party you could throw for that much money! You could book a couple of your favorite bands, rent a small venue, buy a bunch of kegs, and rent out a hotel wing for your guests. It wouldn't be about showing off, it would be about having fun and treating your friends to something great, and that's the difference. These bitches on this show don't give a fuck about their friends having a good time, all they want is to show off and look like a celebrity. It's just me, me, me, me, me. It's appalling.

So to every vapid, ungrateful, undeserving idiot who's ever had their party shown on this show, I wish you a lifetime of loneliness, a scorching case of ghonorea, and I hope you wreck that expensive car you got for your birthday. To the parents of these bitches I wish bankruptcy and daily rectal bleeding. To every kid who watches that show and thinks "I want to be just like that!" I say this - don't be like them. Sure they're rich, but they're stupid, greedy, snobby, immature, and they'll never be happy. Fuck 'em.

Aaaaaaahhhhh...I feel so much better now.

Rant away!!!

knocked up

Hey, so I don't really know where else to post this but I just had to tell someone and it's too early to tell my real life friends. I came home from work today and my girlfriend was waiting for me, in my bed.. we had planned on seeing a movie tonight and she insisted on meeting me at my house. She told me to crawl into bed and close the door, so of course I'm thinking, nookie time. She asks me, how do you feel about going to Vegas for your birthday? She had been planning on take me somewhere for my birthday, a surprise.. I was really puzzled, and she said, what do people do in Vegas. I'm like, uh, gamble, get drunk? Get married? So she hands me this small box, which, ironically said 'Thank You' on the lid. I open it and lo and behold, several pregnancy tests, all positive.

We cried and held each other a little bit, and apparently I handled it well because she told me she's never loved me as much as right now. We are going to be ok.. she already has a nicely furnished house her parents made the down payments for, and the mortgage is just barely more than what I pay in rent right now. It will be enough to start off with. We've been together for a year and I was already 99 percent sure that we'd be getting married at some point. Unfortunately just moving in together is not an option due to my conservative parents - just family drama that I could do without. I guess I'm most nervous about telling parents, being judged, etc. but it's not like we're teenagers with our whole future ahead of us. She is 32 and I am 30 and we've both done lots of cool stuff in our lives. I will miss my cool downtown bohemian lifestyle and am not looking forward to certain sacrifices, but I am 100% convinced, at least, that I knocked up the right woman. It is scary as hell but it could be much worse I guess. But then I'm still in shock so I'm not sure how I'll be feeling about it tomorrow.

I just needed to get that off my chest. I appreciate any advice, vibes, support, etc. from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Red Dead Redemption

A open world western made by the Rockstar guys? Yes please. I'll be all over this game when it comes out. There are pretty good benefits for pre-ordering from different companies. I got a Best Buy card for the b-day so I'll be getting a badass horse when I buy the game. Amazon pre-orders get kickass golden guns. And Game Stop pre-orders get a cool assassin outfit that helps with the game's "dead-eye" ability (sort of like Fallout 3's targeting system.)

I haven't been really excited for a game in a while but I'm really amped up for this one. The online posse multiplayer looks like it'll be a riot.

Help me decide on a vacation spot

I just found out I'm getting a bonus from work, so (after paying off a credit card bill) I think I'm going to blow a big chunk of it by paying for me & the g/f to go on a trip somewhere for probably around 5 or so days. I have a few ideas in mind, but wanted to get opinions from people who've been to these places or get other ideas of places I haven't thought of. I kind of what to keep the flight within 5 or 6 hours.

What are your thoughts on these places:

Costa Rica
Guatemalla
Cabo San Lucas (Mexico)
Hawaii (maybe Kuwai)

Money is still an object, so the price of flight + hotel will have an impact in my decision. I think I'm leaning towards Costa Rica. Where are good places to stay there? It seems like a lot of the flight + hotel deals are hotels in San Jose. Is it ok to Stay in San Jose or are there any cheap places to stay near the beach? I think rain season starts there in May, so we'd have to go towards the end of April.

Improving or alternative to a HTML Table?

I'm a little unhappy with how our Discography look on my website. I'm a newb but have been leaning how to do some basics to add new data to the site and such. I would love to revamp this. I've added in links to the bands sites, XBOX sale pages, Rock Band song pages and the XBOX and Play Station icons. On my end scrolling around the table seems really glitchy and I don't know why.

Anyone have any suggestions on a way to rework or improve this? Also, does anyone know how I might have artwork pop up when hovering over either some text or perhaps a tiny tiny thumbnail?
